Wow, with this being the first post, I'm not really sure where to begin. With that being said, I must not place a disclaimer on the words that follow by saying that I have so much to convey about what my trip holds that this may not be as organized as I would like. Now that you have been fairly warned, I shall proceed:
I should probably start with how I got here...my name is Teresa, and I am a first year medical student. Hence, this is my last summer to truly have no responsibility. As a medical student, we are heavily pressured to do research, or something equally resume worthy in order to aid us in our climb of the medical success ladder. However, after much contemplation, prayer, and talking to the very people who told me to spend my summer exalting myself in some way, I answered the call to lead an ambassador team to Peru for one month.
To say a little about what the ambassador program is at Adventures in Missions...it is a nondenominational Christian organization that brings together high school students from across the country (who have never met) who love the Lord and chose to give up a month of their summers to go overseas and do just that. We live in community and grow closer than you would ever imagine as we learn from the Lord and teach each other to reflect it to those around us. As a leader, my main job is to take care of these students, disciple them, and model ministry for them to enable them to disciple the people of Peru. Three years ago I was an ambassador in Kenya and God turned my world upside down. What He did there became so much a part of who I am that I ended up leading a trip of students last year in Swaziland...which again changed my life (If you feel so inclined, there are blogs about both trips linked on the side). I'm so blessed to have been apart of this program and super excited to be a part of it once again!
With all of that lovely back ground, I'll say something brief about what we'll be doing in Peru (with more complete details to come). We will be staying in a village in Peru called Musho. This village is high in the Andes mountains near Mt. Huascuran, the tallest mountain in Peru. We will be working with the local church in order to develop a deeper discipleship with believers and reaching out to those that don't know him in the community. I'll be with 7 students and a co-leader, Jason (who is currently in Peru).
Alright, there are so many other things I could share, but I suppose those will wait for another time. Pray for my team as we start the preparation for our trip. Pray for Jason and I to be equipped with all that we need to lead in HIS strength. Also, at this point, I'm just beginning to communicate with the students, so pray for community and unity to be cultivated among my team. Until next time...
